Learn to Drive Safely follows the DSA voluntary code of practice for driving instructors. If you require a full copy of this code, please ask, or contact the DSA directly. If you have any cause for complaint, please speak to your driving instructor. If you are still unhappy then the code of practice will give you information regarding the next step to take.
1. DRIVING LICENCE & EYESIGHT & INFRINGEMENTS
1a. You must hold a current valid licence (either provisional or full) which must be produced on the first lesson. You must also be able to read a number plate from a distance 20.5 metres (67 feet) using your glasses if normally worn.
1b. You must notify Your Instructor of any matters which affect your ability or entitlement to have driving tuition, for example, but not limited to, any lack, or loss, of a valid provisional driving licence.
1c. Please note that whilst your driving instructor is there to guide and instruct you, they cannot be held responsible for any speeding fines, infringement fines, etc. that are incurred due to non-conformance of instruction and any such infringements etc. will be the sole responsibility of the pupil.
1d. FIT & LEGAL – please be aware if you are found to be unfit to drive due to such things as but not limited to; being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not wearing prescription glasses, etc. Your driving instructor WILL refuse to take you on your driving lesson and you WILL be charged for any loss of revenue.
1e. At all times the pupil should be aware of the dangers in driving and should take precautions during the course of the lessons to safeguard the tuition vehicle. Although your instructor is trained to correct faults in driving occasional damage does sometimes occur. Typically damage to mirrors and tyres. Any damage sustained during the course of the lesson will be chargeable particularly in view of any excesses applicable to the insurance of the vehicle.
2. PAYMENTS & LESSON BOOKINGS
2a. When booking your first lesson you will need to pay for that lesson and the next lesson. You must always be in credit in order to book your next lesson.
2b. Where an intensive or semi intensive course is booked a £100 deposit will be required. This is a non-refundable deposit save exceptional circumstances, where a refund is at the discretion of the instructor.
2c. You must pay for tuition in advance at the beginning of each lesson by using one of the following methods:
Payment by PayPal – which need to be made 48 hours before the lesson is due to take place and can be made via the web site @ www.learntodrivesafely.co.uk
Payment by cash or cheque. (Any cheques must be made payable to Brian Sutcliffe)
3. PRICE CHANGES
3a. The price of lessons which have not been pre-paid as part of a block booking may be changed at any time.
3b. Price changes will be updated on the web site and are effective immediately.
3c. The cost of prepaid tuition is based on the lesson price in force at time of booking and will be honoured for 12 months thereafter irrespective of any price increase that may occur between the date of booking and when the lessons are taken.
3d. Any unused lessons remaining after 12 months have elapsed shall have any lesson price increase applied.
4a. If You or Your Instructor wish to cancel a lesson a minimum of 24 hours prior notice should be given. Cancellations must be made directly between You and Your Instructor. (Exceptions – adverse weather or mechanical failure).
4b. If you do not give at least 24 hours notice of cancellation, Your Instructor will be entitled to charge for the lesson(s) concerned.
4c. If you do cancel without the required notice you will need to top up your credit on your next lesson.
4d. Cancellations for an intensive driving course or block booked course of lessons require 10 WORKING DAYS NOTICE otherwise the course will be charged for.
5. USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR DRIVING TESTS
5a. In the interest of yours and the public´s safety, we reserve the right to withdraw the use of the training car for the driving test, if in our opinion, your driving is potentially or actually dangerous. Every effort will be made to inform you of this decision to prevent the loss of the DSA test fee.
5b. Introductory or special offers cannot be used in conjunction with driving tests.
5c. Arriving late for the driving test – see note 6c. below.
5d. You need to be aware that your driving instructor has a full diary of pupils and therefore you should always consult with your driving instructor before booking your practical driving test, if you fail to consult with your driving instructor availability CANNOT be guaranteed. Alternatively your instructor will book on your behalf the practical driving test subject to payment of the DSA test fee. Your instructor will not cancel or rearrange the driving test without the pupil’s agreement.
5e. It is the candidates responsibility to take the required documentation to their practical driving test and your driving instructor will not be held responsible if your test is cancelled due to missing documentation. Your instructor will normally ask to see the documentation before leaving the pickup address.
5f. Whilst every effort is made to maintain the vehicle of Instruction to a high standard your driving instructor will NOT be responsible for any mechanical or electrical faults that may happen before or during your practical driving test such as but not limited to BLOWN Reverse light bulb etc… Your driving instructor will not be held responsible if your test is cancelled due to such events.
6a. Tuition will be on a one to one basis, unless otherwise agreed.
6b. Lesson times will be sixty (60), ninety (90), one hundred and twenty (120) minutes in duration, anything other will be agreed mutually by the instructor and client. Intensive courses will be in blocks of one hundred and twenty (120) minutes with a thirty (30) minutes break between for refreshments and rest.
6c. Please be aware that your driving instructor has NO control over road conditions such as but not limited to;
Road closure plus many more etc…
Whilst your driving Instructor has extensive knowledge of your local areas s/he cannot be held responsible for any delays that this may cause in over-run lesson time (the student will NOT be charged for the over-run lesson time) and/or lateness to appointments such as but not limited to your practical driving test
7. CAR INSURANCE
Tuition cars are fully insured for tuition and driving tests with a reputable insurer and the relevant certificate of insurance will be made available for inspection upon request.
8a. After arriving at your nominated pick up point for your lesson but there is no reply at the address in question, we will wait approximately 20 minutes. If after 20 minutes, you have not made contact or we are unable to reach you, the lesson will be abandoned and you will be required to pay for the lesson(s) in question.
8b. Your Instructor will make every effort to arrive on time but with today’s traffic volumes this may not always be possible. If your instructor is likely to be more than 10 minutes late in arriving you should receive a call or text informing you. The lesson will only commence once the instructor has arrived and will run for the agreed length.

9. COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE
9a. You will have an informal discussion about the matter concerned with your Driving Instructor.
9b. Failing agreement or settlement of a dispute, the pupil should put the grievance in writing to the company within 30 days of the incident. The company will not deal with complaints after the said 30 day period.
9c. The company will only deal with a complaint directly from the pupil concerned.
